Ecuador's Xavier Moreno overcame Horacio Nava of Mexico late in the race to win the 50-kilometer walk Saturday in the last full day of competitions at the Pan American Games, according to AP. Nava led most of the race under constant rain at the Flamengo Park, but Moreno pushed hard at the end and passed him in the final kilometer to win in 3 hours, 52 minutes, 7 seconds. Nava finished 28 seconds behind, ahead of countryman Omar Zepeda de Leon. Argentina's Carlos Mercenario holds the Pan Ams record of 3:47:55, achieved in the Mar del Plata games in 1995.
