Two people were killed and seven injured Thursday when a small chartered aircraft crashed on landing in the west of Ireland, Irish national broadcaster RTE reported, according to dpa. The fixed-wing Cessna single-engined aircraft had been en route from the offshore Aran Islands when it missed the runway at an airport in Indreabhan (Inverin) in county Galway, located in the picturesque Connemara region and about 20 miles from Galway city. Officials from the country's Air Accident Investigation Unit were probing the cause of the crash, RTE said. The aircraft is believed to have been chartered for a sightseeing trip to the Atlantic island group. The seven injured were removed to hospital, RTE said, adding that one person was believed to be in a serious condition.
