Sudanese President Omar Hasan Al-Basheer canceled his participation in the African Union Summit which will be held in Ghanian capital Accra due to the death of Dr. Majzoub Al-Khalifa Ahmed, one of the Presidential Advisors in a car accident, an official statement said. Al-Basheer assigned LAM Akol Ajawin, the Sudanese Foreign Minister to represent Sudan in the AU Summit. The main discussion of the Summit will be as decided in the 8th ordinary session in January 2007 in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, "The Grand Debate on the Union Government", which is expected to produce a framework for 'full political and economic integration' of Africa, or ultimately lead to a "United States of Africa."
