Pakistan's National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has turned down an offer by the UN Resident Coordinator Office (UNRCO) Islamabad to assist the federal and the provincial authorities in carrying out relief and rescue operations in cyclone and flash flood-affected areas of Sindh and Balochistan, said a news report. The NDMA had conveyed to UNRCO that the situation in cyclone Yemyin-hit areas of Sindh and Balochistan was under control and currently no external assistance, either from the UN agencies or the international community, was required, the report carried by the leading English language daily The News said. Shaukat Nawaz Tahir, a senior member of NDMA told the paper that the federal and the provincial governments, as well as the Army and the Navy, were busy in rescue and relief operations in Sindh and Balochistan and at the moment, no UN or foreign assistance was required.
