THE VISIT OF THE CUSTODIAN OF THE TWO HOLY MOSQUES KING ABDULLAH BIN ABDULAZIZ TO SPAIN ON MONDAY CONSTITUTES AN IMPORTANT DEVELOPMENT. A SERIES OF AGREEMENTS ARE EXPECTED TO BE SIGNED DURING THE VISIT. THE SAUDI-SPANISH RELATIONS ARE DEEP-ROOTED AND DATES BACK TO 1957. THE TWO COUNTRIES SIGNED IN 1404 AH (1984) A CULTURAL AGREEMENT WHICH STIPULATED COOPERATION IN THE FIELDS OF HIGHER EDUCATION, RESEARCHES, COOPERATION BETWEEN THE SAUDI AND SPANISH UNIVERSITIES. IN 1408AH (1988), THE TWO COUNTRIES SINGED AN AGREEMENT FOR COOPERATION IN THE AVIATION SPHERE. IN APRIL 2006, THE SAUDI AND SPANISH FOREIGN MINISTRIES SIGNED IN RIYADH A MEMORANDUM OF UNDERSTANDING (MOU). THE MOU WAS SIGNED IN THE PRESENCE OF THE CUSTODIAN OF THE TWO HOLY MOSQUES, KING ABDULLAH BIN ABDULAZIZ AND KING JUAN CARLOS OF SPAIN. ON BEHALF OF SAUDI ARABIA THE MOU WAS SIGNED BY PRINCE SAUD AL-FAISAL, THE FOREIGN MINISTER, WHILE ON BEHALF OF SPAIN IT WAS SIGNED BY ITS FOREIGN MINISTER MIGUL ANGEL MORATINOS. --MORE
