A plane taking Panamanian President Martin Torrijos to Honduras was forced to make an emergency landing early Friday in Costa Rica due to a technical failure, authorities at San Jose's Juan Santamaria airport said, according to dpa. The pilot asked to land after a crack in the machine's windshield activated alarm systems, Isaac Perez, operations manager for the firm Alterra, which is in charge of the airport, told Deutsche Presse- Agentur dpa. The emergency landing occurred without further trouble at 9:19 am (1519 GMT), Perez said. President Torrijos, who on his way to Honduras to sign a trade deal, remained in Costa Rica while the airplane was repaired.
