The construction of the first oil pipeline from Russia to China is being built according to schedule and will be completed by next year, the newspaper China Daily cited representative of the Chinese National Oil and Gas Corporation Li Guoiui as saying here. The oil pipeline, which will connect the Russian city of Skovorodino and the Chinese city of Daqing, is to supply China with 10 million tonnes of fuel a year, reaching about 30 million tonnes in the future. The expert stressed that the launching of this 700-kilometre-long line and attainment of its maximum capacity will enable China to considerably reduce the country's deficit of hydrocarbon fuel. He also expressed hope that all necessary works will be completed according to schedule. In 2006, China imported 169 million tonnes of oil, 15 million tonnes of them - - from Russia, Itar-Tass quoted the report of the newspaper as saying.
