GCC LABOR MINISTERS HAVE AGREED ON FORMULATION OF A UNIFIED LABOR LAW. THIS LABOR LAW WILL CONSTITUTE A GUIDING LAW CONTAINING BROAD LINES PERTAINING TO THE LABOR MARKET IN THE GCC MEMBER STATES. EACH OF THE GCC MEMBER STATES WILL BE ENTITLED TO ENACT ITS OWN LEGISLATIONS AND SUITABLE LAWS IN THIS RESPECT. THE GCC LABOR MINISTERS HELD THEIR 32ND COORDINATION MEETING ON THE FRINGES OF THE 96TH SESSION OF THE INTERNATIONAL LABOR CONFERENCE, CURRENTLY IN PROGRESS HERE. BAHRAINI MINISTER OF LABOR DR MUJEED AL-ALAWI SAID IT WOULD BE POSSIBLE FOR THE GCC MEMBER STATES TO FORMULATE A UNIFIED LABOR LAW WHICH MATCHES THE INTERNATIONAL LABOR AGREEMENTS, AND AT THE SAME TIME PRESERVES THE GULF IDENTITY AND THE LABOR SYSTEM WHICH SUITS THE PREVAILING CONDITIONS IN THE GULF REGION. A COMMITTEE COMPRISING REPRESENTATIVES OF THE GCC MEMBER STATES AND THE EXECUTIVE BUREAU OF THE GCC MINISTERS OF LABOR AND SOCIAL AFFAIRS WILL STUDY THE LABOR LAWS AND FORMULATE A UNIFIED LABOR LAW. THE DRAFT OF THE LABOR LAW WILL BE PRESENTED TO THE MEETING OF THE GCC LABOR MINISTERS DUE TO BE HELD IN RIYADH.
