Two policemen and four dacoits were killed in an armed encounter in front of the office of the district police officer (DPO) of Hafizabad in Pakistan s Punjab province Friday, police said. Two of the four women the fleeing robbers had made hostage in a house were seriously injured in the exchange of fire. When police were chasing the criminals after they had committed a robbery, they took refuge in a house and made the female inmates hostage, DPO Malik Nawaz said. As a heavy police posse encircled the house, robbers opened fire. Policemen retaliated. All the dacoits were killed on the spot. Two policemen including Wilayat Hussain and Malik Ramzan were grievously injured in the encounter. They were immediately shifted to the Hafizabad hospital where they breathed their last.
