Supermarket operator Safeway Inc. said today it is voluntarily recalling about a dozen fresh ground-beef products sold at its Arizona stores because they may be contaminated with E. coli O157:H7 bacteria. The recall is in response to Vernon, Calif.-based United Food Group's extended recall of 370,000 pounds of ground beef announced earlier this month. The recall has been extended to include a number of products, Safeway said. Safeway advises customers to discard these products or return them to their local store for a refund. Customers who have questions about the recall can contact Safeway at 1-800-SAFEWAY. Shares of Safeway closed Wednesday at $34.66, off 31 cents. -- SPA
