A total of 14 Iraqis were killed and scores were wounded in violence on Sunday in Baquba, 60 kilometres north-east of Baghdad, reported the DPA. At least nine of them were killed and over 25 wounded in a car bomb, witnesses said. The explosive-laden vehicle detonated as an Iraqi police patrol passed. Several policemen were among the casualties, witnesses said, but most of the wounded were civilians. Ambulances were seen rushing to the blast site. In another incident in the same vicinity, five people were killed and 10 were wounded when gunmen attacked a number of commuter buses. According to local authorities, the gunmen set up a fake checkpoint on the road linking Khales to Baquba. When some buses did not stop for them, they immediately opened fire on them killing some of the passengers who were reportedly all civilian. The gunmen fled following the incident, police said. Paramedics arrived later to the scene.
