Malaysia will continue efforts to modernize its defense forces to ensure the nation's sovereignty and security is safeguarded, said Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak. According the Malaysian news agency "Bernama," Najib, who is also Defense Minister, said expenditure for this was not a waste and that the country adopted a prudent and balanced approach when it came to spending. "We will continue efforts to modernize our military forces as the environment has changed, they have to keep up with the times and for future challenges where technology will play a large part," he told reporters after opening the Malaysian Defense Forces' Expo held in conjunction with the Pekan Fest here yesterday. He said the process of equipping the defense forces with modern arms and military assets was an ongoing one to ensure that they had the capability the defend the nation. -- SPA
