A fast-moving wildfire had chased thousands of people from campsites by Sunday morning near Los Padres National Forest in California, authorities said. No injuries were reported. The fire, which had burned more than 2,500 acres (1,011 hectares), was 50 percent surrounded by early Sunday morning, The Associated Press quoted Los Angeles County fire Capt. Mike Brown as saying. More than 3,000 people were evacuated from four area campsites, Brown said. The fire was reported Saturday afternoon near the Golden State Freeway about 70 miles (112 kilometers) north of Los Angeles. The cause was under investigation. Southern California Edison reported 18 homes were without power due to the fire, but authorities said no homes were immediately threatened. Elsewhere, a wildfire that had threatened homes and other structures in two northern Arizona forests was 80 percent contained, and evacuees were being told they could return home Sunday morning. Authorities think it was caused by a person. And in southern New Jersey, a fire that earlier had forced the evacuation of 6,000 people was 90 percent contained Saturday, officials with the New Jersey Forest Fire Service said.
