Indonesia was one of 12 countries elected member of the WHO (World Health Organization)`s executive board at the organization`s assembly in Geneva on Friday. "Indonesia and 11 other countries were elected as members of the WHO Executive Board this morning," ANTARA quoted Nyoman Kandun, director general of diseases control and environmental health of the Indonesian Health, as saying in a statement telephoned from Geneva on Friday. Indonesia would serve as WHO Executive Board member for three years, said Nyoman who was attending the 60th World Health Assembly (WHA) in Genva. Indonesian Health Minister Fadilah Supari is also present at the meeting which has been going in the Swiss city since May 16 and will last until May 23, 2007. As a member of the executive board, Indonesia would play a role in WHO`s decision making processes, he said. "The WHO executive board is a governing body which decides the organization`s directions," he said. The board has a number of tasks in decision making among other things on the WHO budget, draft resolutions to be tabled in WHA meetings, and the appointment of WHO directors general.
