A missile explosion killed two workers and injured one other Friday at an ammunition depot plagued by fires and blasts in recent years, an emergency services official said, according to AP. The accident happened at the Novobohdanivka depot as the workers were trying to disarm the missile, said emergency ministry spokesman Ihor Krol. The Novobohdanivka arsenal caught fire in 2004, killing five people and setting off explosions of rockets and artillery ammunition that rained shrapnel and shook the region for days. A second, much smaller fire broke out in July 2005. Last year, a fire at the depot injured four and caused massive disruptions as railroads and highways nearby were temporarily closed to traffic. Ukrainian defense officials warn that dozens of poorly maintained, Soviet-era depots pose a serious public hazard. -- SPA
