Suspected Islamic militants fired rockets and assault rifles at a military post in northwestern Pakistan prompting a clash early Sunday that left three attackers and one soldier dead, intelligence officials said. Paramilitary and army troops returned artillery fire in the pre-dawn attack on the post near the village of Nari Dogg in North Waziristan, a tribal region near the Afghan border where local and foreign militants are believed to operate, the official said on condition of anonymity because of the sensitive nature of his job, according to AP. One soldier died at the scene, he said. A second intelligence official, who also requested anonymity because he was unauthorized to speak to the media, told the AP that the security forces' retaliatory fire killed three militants. Military officials were not immediately available to confirm the clash or casualties. -- SPA
