Militants fired three rockets at a Pakistani army camp near the Afghan border on Thursday and two people were killed when one of the missiles hit a home, a security official said, according to Reuters. Pakistani forces have been battling al Qaeda-linked militants in rugged northwestern tribal areas since early last year and hundreds of militants and Pakistani soldiers have been killed. Militants attacked the army camp shortly after midnight. Two of the rockets exploded harmlessly but one hit a dwelling, killing two men and seriously wounding a girl, said an intelligence official in Miranshah, the main town in the North Waziristan region. Troops at the camp in Datta Kheil, 27 km (17 miles) west of Miranshah, returned fire with artillery but there were no reports of any other casualties, said the official, who declined to be identified. Clashes flared in North Waziristan last week and up to 40 militants are believed to have been killed, about half of them foreigners, probably Central Asians and Afghans, the Pakistani military has said. Seven members of the security forces have been killed in the past week, the military says.
