Gunmen sprayed the facade of a police station with bullets and an explosive damaged an empty house in two overnight attacks on the Mediterranean island of Corsica, local police officials said Saturday. No one was hurt in the incidents. Early Saturday morning several people fired on a police station in the town of Cauro, some 15 kilometers (nine miles) south of the western city of Ajaccio, officials said. Six families sleeping in a barracks inside the building were awoken by the sound of the gunshots. In 2004, the same police station was hit by a rocket. No one was injured in that attack, according to AP. A villa belonging to residents of the mainland was partially blown up in a separate overnight attack in the town of Pieve, in the north of the island, officials said. No one was in the house at the time of the blast. There were no immediate claims of responsibility for the attacks, which came on the eve of French presidential elections Sunday. Corsican separatists have called for a demonstration Saturday to mobilize sympathizers ahead of the vote. -- SPA
