EU Offers Technical Assistance to Palestinians

The European Union (EU) is willing to aid the Palestinian people financially and through technical support to revamp their banking system, EU External Commissioner Benita Ferrero-Waldner said after meeting with U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon on Friday.
Ferrero-Waldner met with Palestinian Finance Minister Salam Fayyad in Brussels on Wednesday, and she was at U.N. headquarters to brief Ban on the meeting.
"I have agreed with him (Fayyad) that we will open up towards technical assistance in order to get the Palestinian Ministry of Finance in the right condition to receive donor funds in the future, although we know this cannot happen overnight," Ferrero-Waldner told The Saudi Press Agency (SPA).
