The search for a black box belonging to a German Tornado which crashed in the Swiss Alps, was hampered by a high risk of avalanches and the difficult terrain, investigators said Friday. The recovery could shed light on the causes of the crash, according to dpa. The aircraft hit the mountainside near Lauterbrunnen on Thursday killing the 27-year-old pilot. A second crew member, 34, managed to eject, but was found alive. The plane was to approach several Swiss airstrips before returning to its base in Lechfeld, Germany. A team of 15 German defence experts has arrived at Emmen, near Lucern in central Switzerland, to investigate the cause of the crash. A Swiss airforce spokesman said the aircraft had been travelling 300 metres above the ground at 1,100 metres, far lower than Swiss military planes flew, according to the Swiss wire service ATS.
