Around 800 people have been left homeless following several fires in squatter camps around Cape Town, firefighters in South Africa's Western Cape province said Saturday. About 250 homes were destroyed in four fires since Friday night, including one at the sprawling Khayelitsha township, a spokesperson for Cape Town's disaster management service said. There were no reports of casualties, dpa reported. The cause of the blazes was unknown but the area is on high alert for fires, which occur frequently in the Western Cape in dry, windy conditions.
