At least seven policemen were killed and four others wounded when their convoy was ambushed by suspected Taliban militants in southern Kandahar province, local police said Sunday. The attack occurred late Saturday as a group of police reinforcements were heading towards Shorawak district of the province, where a group of Taliban had attacked the district headquarters, dpa quoted provincial police chief Esmatullah Alizai as saying. "The police forces were on their way from Spin Boldak district to Shorawak to support the ongoing fighting in the district when their convoy was ambushed in middle of the way by Taliban, leaving seven policemen dead and another four wounded," Alizai said. He said several Taliban fighters were also killed during the hours-long firefight but could not provide any figures.
