United Nations chief Ban Ki-moon pledged Saturday from southern Lebanon that the United Nations commitment to support Lebanon and its people would continue. "I hope the calm being witnessed on the ground will continue and the close cooperation between the Lebanese army and the UN troops in southern Lebanon will continue," dpa quoted Ban as saying as he inspected UNIFIL troops in the southern Lebanon. Ban, who arrived by a helicopter to Naquora, where the headquarters of United Nations Interim Forces in Southern Lebanon (UNIFIL) is located, received an official welcome by the UN peacekeepers. The UN official held a lengthy meeting with the head of the UN troops, which is currently headed by Italian general Claudio Craciano.
