The European Union (EU) has banned import of seafood items from Pakistan, officials said. However, Commerce Minister Hamayun Akhtar said the ban was purely temporary and would be lifted soon. He said the standards of health and hygiene of EU are very high. He stated that a three-member committee has been formed to review the standard of processing and packaging. The committee would be making recommendations after which necessary measures would be taken for improvement and to meet the minimum standards set by the EU, Akhtar said and hoped that after this the ban would be lifted.
