Germany recorded a 16.2-billion-euro trade surplus in January, 11.1 per cent more than a year earlier as export growth outpaced the rise in imports, reported dpa today. Exports climbed 13.4 per cent to 77.5 billion euros, while imports rose 9.6 per cent to 61.4 billion euros, the Federal Statistics Office said today. Most of the export growth was attributed to an increase in sales outside Europe. Month-on-month, January exports rose 0.1 per cent from December 2006, while imports declined 1.5 per cent, the statistics office added. -- SPA
