Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Sunday invited separatist groups in India's insurgency-ridden northeast to give up violence and start talks on ending more than two decades of strife in the region. Singh, on his first visit to remote Manipur state since becoming prime minister in May, said his government was committed to altering the region's image as a troubled frontier. "We are ready to talk peace with anyone who gives up violence," Singh told reporters in Imphal, Manipur's capital.
