Chairman of Expediency Discernment Council of Iran Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani described the role of the Arab countries especially Saudi Arabia to settle the problems faced currently by the region as very important, explaining that the past proved the importance of cooperation between Iran and Saudi Arabia to solve diplomatic and economic problems. "Security in the region will stabilize by cooperation among its countrie," Iranian mass media quoted today Rafsanjani as saying during the meeting with Omani Foreign Minister Yousef bin Alawi, who is currently visiting Tehran. He expressed dissatisfaction with the current situation in the Middle East particularly Iraq, emphasizing cooperation necessity of the countries in the region to maintain security and stability. Rafsanjani highlighted the progress among Palestinian factions disputes, expressing his hope that Makkah agreement would result in strengthening solidarity among the Palestinian leaders. For his part, Alawi discribed the ties between his country and Iran as distinguished, announcing his country's desire to strengthen cooperation with Tehran.
