Food, Agriculture and Livestock Minister Sikandar Bosan has met his Iranian counterpart Mohammad Reza Eskandari in Tehran, says an official statement. Bosan has gone to Tehran to attend the Third ECO (Economic Cooperation Organization) Ministerial Meeting on Agriculture. During the meeting, matters of mutual interest particularly promotion of bilateral cooperation in the fields of food, agriculture and live stock were discussed. Bosan briefed his Iranian counterpart about the agriculture policies of Pakistan, highlighting that agriculture sector constituted the mainstay of Pakistan s economy. He apprised him on the use of modern technologies in the field of agriculture in Pakistan. The minister offered training courses for Iranian experts in the Institute of Forestry in Pakistan which is the best in the region. Referring to the MOUs signed for export of fresh fruits, Bosan emphasized the importance of regular meetings between technical experts of Agriculture Ministries of the two countries. The Iranian minister highlighted the achievements of his country in the field of agriculture and agrees with Bosan s proposals and stated that Joint Working Group on Agriculture should be activated for frequent meetings so that cooperation in the fields of bilateral trade, agriculture, education and research could be further enhanced. The Iranian minister showed willingness to import beef from Pakistan. He stated that quarantine requirements have been relaxed to some extent in case of imports from Pakistan. The Iranian Minister for Agriculture suggested more frequent meetings between the two Ministers.
