A bomb attack apparently targetting the provincial police chief of Farah province in western Afghanistan left two people dead and another 48 wounded today, local police said. The attack took place at around 8:10 a.m. when a roadside bomb was detonated near the vehicle of the provincial police chief, Said Agha Saqib. Speaking to Deutsche Presse-Agentur (dpa), Saqib said he was not in the vehicle at the time of the explosion, which killed two civilians and wounded two policemen. Another 46 civilian bystanders were also wounded in the attack. Ten of them are said to be in critical condition. The majority of those injured were most likely construction labourers who were working in the area.
