Nepal's government called an emergency meeting of top political leaders on Monday to discuss escalating violence in southern Nepal. Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala was to meet Monday with leaders of the seven political parties in the ruling alliance and Maoist rebels, who have joined mainstream politics to end years of insurgency, said Madhav Nepal of the Communist Party of Nepal United Marxist-Leninist. This meeting comes after clashes in a southeastern town left one person dead on Friday. Authorities imposed a curfew over the weekend, the Associated Press reported.
