European Union foreign policy chief Javier Solana said Friday that he hoped a meeting of the "quartet" comprised of the EU, United States, United States and Russia early next month would kickstart the stalled Middle East peace process, DPA reported. "My presence here today is to see the president and to present to him the wish and plan of the European Union to revitalize the peace process," Solan told a joint news conference in Ramallah with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas. "We would like very much for a process which is political in nature to get started," he said, adding the quartet meeting on February 2 would "probably be the most important push that will be done by the international community in that direction." Abbas said talks between Fatah and Hamas representatives on the formation of a unity government could resume in Gaza on Friday night and Saturday.
