The European Union will continue to provide financial aid to the Palestinian Authority until a new Hamas-led Palestinian government is formed, the bloc's foreign and security policy chief Javier Solana said Monday, according to DPA. "We are trying to find the necessary resources ... we hope we have enough money to sustain the Palestinian Authority until there is a new government," Solana told reporters. The EU was determined to continue support for the urgent needs of the Palestinian people, the EU's chief diplomat insisted. "Once a government is formed we will analyse the situation to see how in future we will act," he added. Solana said members of the so-called Quartet - which includes the EU, the United States, Russia and the United Nations - had held a telephonic "conference call" Monday on developments in the Middle East. There was agreement among all four Quartet members that Hamas must respect recent peace agreements, recognise Israel and renounce violence, Solana insisted.
