UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon on Friday named Tanzania's Foreign Minister Asha-Rose Migiro as his deputy, giving her extensive responsibility in managing the world organization, DPA reported. "I have deep confidence in and respect for her, and intend to delegate much of the management and administrative work of the secretariat, as well as socio-economic affairs and development issues," Ban said in a statement. Migiro will be the second woman to hold the position in the past 10 years. Louise Frechette of Canada served as Secretary General Kofi Annan's deputy during most of Annan's two five-year terms that ended on December 31. Ban took over from Annan on Monday and has been appointing senior staff this week. Migiro has also served as Tanzania's minister of community development, gender and children, and was a senior lecturer in the Faculty of Law of the University of Dar-es-Salaam.
