The United Nations deputy secretary general Louise Frechette on Monday said that the process of solving the final status of Kosovo will not be determined until the internationally administrated province meets a set of democratic standards and minority issues, dpa reported. "The U.N. will assess Kosovo's progress within the next few months, a preliminary step leading up to the process to decide the province's future status", Frechette told reporters in Pristina. She explained that the positive assessment expected to be drafted by newly appointed U.N. representative Kai Eide in the next two months "would pave the way" for the final process of determining Kosovo's status. However, her visit was also used to step up international efforts to resolve the province's final status after the six years of U.N. administration, as Frechette met virtually all major political players, including President Ibrahim Rugova and Premier Bajram Kosumi. --SP 2303 Local Time 2003 GMT
