MenaTelecom won a National Fixed Wireless Services (NFWS) License in the Kingdom of Bahrain. Abdulhakeem Al Khayyat, Chairman of MenaTelecom and General Manager of Kuwait Finance House (Bahrain) announced that MenaTelecom, an investment subsidiary of Kuwait Finance House (Bahrain), has won one of the two National Fixed Wireless Services (NFWS) Licenses, after the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) opened the financial bids yesterday and announced the final decision following the panel's recommendation. Out of a total of six bidders qualified for consideration of their financial bids and licenses, the licensees were awarded to the two highest bidders, according to a press release of Mena Telecom. On this occasion Abdulhakeem Al Khayyat said “We are very excited about this opportunity for MenaTelecom. Bahrain has a long tradition of being the first in the region to introduce innovative telecommunications technology and it is our privilege that MenaTelecom has been chosen to continue with this tradition for the benefit of our customers.” Al Khayyat said “Our vision is to have our customers connected to the world easily, reliably and affordably, using the most innovative technology available today. We are very pleased with the progress and achievement that Mena Telecom has made throughout 2006. "The government policy of opening the telecom market in the Kingdom of Bahrain is a positive move to the economy, and it is encouraging the business sector while benefiting the end-users," he added. An NFWS license will facilitate the implementation of WiMax across the Kingdom. WiMax is the latest development in wireless networking technology and will deliver high-speed Internet access, as well as telephony and other telecommunication services across the nation. It will provide a real alternative to landline technology.
