Danish Prime Minister Anders Fogh Rasmussen said in his New Year speech on Monday he hoped Denmark would be able to begin reducing the number of troops it has in Iraq in 2007, Reuters reported. "I hope, as 2007 unfolds, that the Iraqis can take responsibility for security in the south where Denmark and Britain work together," Rasmussen said. Denmark has about 470 troops in Iraq, serving under British command. Five Danish soldiers have been killed. "As the Iraqis take over responsibility, we can reduce the number of British and Danish soldiers and change their mission, he said."
