Prince Turki Al-Faisal, the Saudi Ambassador to the United States of America affirmed Thursday the position of Saudi Arabia's proposal to make the Middle East region including Israel, free of nuclear weapons. This came in a speech today before the World Affairs Council of Philadelphia in which he referred to the concern of the international community over the nuclear ambitions of Iran. In his speech, Prince Turki stressed the positions of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia toward the issues that affect the stability of the Middle East, particularly the Palestinian-Israeli conflict. He called for enhancement of efforts to bring peace in accordance with the Arab peace initiative and the road map-peace plan. He expressed the Kingdom's deep concern to the current situation in Iraq, stressing that its solution must come from inside Iraq. Prince Turki also reaffirmed the support of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to the Lebanese government and the Lebanese people in the pursuit of stability. He called upon the United States of America and the international community to focus efforts and promote cooperation to achieve peace and stability in the Middle East. Prince Turki, then, responded to numerous questions from members of the World Affairs Council of Philadelphia and the audience about the positions of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia toward the latest developments in the Arab region.
