A call by PLO leaders on the Hamas government to resign is an attempt to overturn the Palestinian people's democratic choice, a Hamas spokesman said Saturday. «We warn that such decisions will lead to more division that will heat up the atmosphere,» said the spokesman, Ismail Radwan. On Friday, the PLO Executive Committee called on the Hamas government to resign, following a deadlock in talks with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas on forming a national unity government acceptable to the West. Prime Minister Ismail Haniyeh of Hamas has told Abbas in the past he would only step down once agreement on a new government has been reached.
