Romanian Defense Minister Teodor Atanasiu resigned Wednesday, saying he was stepping aside to halt a political fight between his ministry and President Traian Basescu, AP REPORTED. «The military is suffering from this political battle which I believe is dangerous,» Atanasiu told reporters. Earlier this month, Atanasiu was cleared of wrongdoing by prosecutors who were investigating allegations he ordered military intelligence to spy on presidential staff. Basescu had suspended Atanasiu in September, pending the investigation.
