United Technologies Corp, maker of Pratt & Whitney jet-engines and Carrier air conditioners, Tuesday reported earnings were up by 21 per cent in the third quarter over the same period last year, and raised its 2006 profit expectations, acording to dpa. Net income rose to 996 million dollars, or 99 cents a share, from 821 million dollars, or 81 cents, a year earlier, Bloomberg financial news service reported. Sales were up by 12 per cent to 12.2 billion dollars, according to a company statement. Rising commercial construction in the US and abroad contributed to strong sales of UT's Otis elevators, Carrier and fire and security divisions.
