An Italian freelance reporter was kidnapped Saturday in southern Afghanistan after being stopped by Taliban insurgents, according to his Afghan escort, who escaped the abduction. The Italian journalist, who has spent a year working in Afghanistan for the Peacereporter news agency, was taken prisoner on a road between Helmand Province and Kandahar, dpa reported.
