The Serbian parliament unanimously adopted the draft of a new constitution Saturday, reaffirming the country's hold on the breakaway Kosovo province and setting a date for a public referendum to enshrine the document into law, reported dpa. The referendum set for October 28 and 29 marks the final hurdle before the new constitution comes into effect, and will have to be backed by more than 50 per cent of the 6.5 million registered voters in the country. All 242 members of parliament present in the 250-seat assembly approved the draft during an emergency session Saturday evening, easily surpassing the necessary two-thirds majority, though most of them saw the draft for the first time on the day the were due to vote for it.
