A British soldier shot Tuesday in southern Iraq has died of his wounds, the Ministry of Defense said Friday. The soldier from 12 Regiment Royal Artillery, who was not identified, was wounded when his patrol came under fire in Qurna, near Basra, the ministry said. He died Thursday. Two soldiers from the same unit were killed by a roadside bomb in southern Iraq on Monday. Britain has about 7,000 troops in Iraq, most based around Basra in the south. The latest death brings the number of British personnel to have died since the 2003 invasion to 118, according to a count of the Associated Press.
