Werder Bremen striker Mohamed Zidan's first international goal set defending champions Egypt on their way to a 4-1 win over Burundi in their African Nations Cup Group Two qualifier on Saturday, according to Reuters. Zidan scored in the fifth minute, turning quickly to fire home a free kick pass from captain Ahmed Hassan. Egypt, who wore black armbands to mark the death of national team fullback Mohamed Abdelwahab on Thursday, added two more before halftime through Hosni Abd Rabou and Mohamed Aboutrika. Abd Rabou, who like Zidan was not part of the Egypt side that won the 2006 Nations Cup title in February, scored with a deflected free kick in the 29th minute. Aboutrika rounded the Burundi goalkeeper 10 minutes later to make it 3-0 and Hassan added the fourth goal in the 53rd minute from the penalty spot. Hassan wore the number three shirt of Abdelwabah, who died of heart failure after collapsing in training on Thursday. Burundi's consolation goal also came from the penalty spot, converted by Musabah Suleimani in the 78th minute.
