Pakistan's information technology sector exports are about $600 million annually, Federal Minister for Information Technology and Telecommunication Awais Leghari Monday said. He told the state-run Pakistan Television that IT exports have generated jobs opportunities in Pakistan. “We are also trying to continue current growth in IT sector, as we are globally more competitive,” Leghari said adding figure of 600 million dollars in IT sector is very encouraging for the government.” The Minister said during last two years about 100,000 to 200,000 jobs were generated by the IT sector. He added 200,000 to 250,000 jobs had been created in telecommunication sector. He said number of telephones has increased from 2.8 million to 42.5 million during last six years. Presently one third population of Pakistan enjoys telephone facility. Leghari said President Pervez Musharraf has fully focussed on the development of information technology sector. He said human resources and connectivity are imperative for the development of IT sector.
