Pakistan's Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz has said implementation of E-government is one of the most significant priorities of the government. He made this observation while reviewing the quarterly goals and targets of the Ministry of Information Technology at the Prime Minister's House. The Prime Minister said that the IT sector presents challenges as well as opportunities which have to be met with confidence. "We cannot afford to lag behind in this vital area in an age of globalization", he observed. Speaking on the occasion, Minister for Information Technology Awais Ahmed Khan Leghari said that all the ministries under the federal government would be linked through a most efficient computer network by October-November next. The government will save billions of rupees annually when nearly 38 ministries will switch on to e-government. "We will hopefully succeed to convert most of our services and business process in new system in next two to three years," Awais said. He said the e-governance would help simplify the process of providing improved facilities to the people.
