A fire destroyed 600 hectares (1,483 acres) of forest near the Aegean resort town of Bodrum, prompting authorities to evacuate hundreds of summer or village houses as a precaution, authorities said Tuesday. Several firefighting helicopters and planes, sent in from nearby provinces, were battling the blaze, which has been raging through pine trees and brush near Bodrum since Monday afternoon, according to a report of the Associated Press.
