A Russian company will spend $20 million on setting up a fish processing plant at Gwardar and imparting the latest fishing techniques to the local fishermen. The establishment of a shipyard and reactivation of ice plant in Gawadar is also included in the project, Balochistan Minister for Fisheries Mir Asghar Rind told reporters. He said the project would be implemented in two phases. In the first phase, the company will teach the fisherman the latest navigation system and the techniques applied in the developed countries for fishing. The second phase will comprise setting up of a modern fish processing plant at Gwadar in order to ensure export of sea products caught from the coastline of the province to major European markets. Rind said the management of the plant would purchase the catch from the fishermen on reasonable prices and export it to Europe and other Western countries after processing. A shipyard will be established at Gwadar in order to manufacture fishing boats locally besides reactivating the ice plant in the area. The boats to be equipped with all fishing equipments that will be provided to the fisherman on lease.
