Lebanon's national carrier Middle East Airlines is to resume flights between Cairo and Beirut Sunday following their month-long suspension as a result of Israel's military strikes on Beirut's Rafiq el-Hariri International Airport, according to dpa. MEA had offered services between Cairo and Damascus during the suspension which lasted over a month. Friday's announcement said, however, that the Cairo-Beirut flights would not be direct to begin with, but would stop over in Amman. MEA's Regional Office Director in Egypt, Mohammad el-Sharqawi, said that the Cairo-Amman-Beirut route would remain in effect until the end of August. The stopover in Amman would lengthen the journey by about two hours.
