A magnitude 6.5 earthquake shook the ex-Soviet Central Asian nation of Tajikistan on Friday, but officials reported no casualties. The quake was centered about 10 kilometers (6 miles) southeast of the capital, Dushanbe, Deputy Emergency Situations Minister Abdurakhim Radzhabov said. He said the temblor measured 6 in the capital, but no casualties were immediately reported. Last month, a quake centered in neighboring Afghanistan killed three and injured 19 people in southern Tajikistan and shattered hundreds of houses in border villages.
